We have teamed up with the ACT State Emergency Service (ACTSES) to help storm-proof the ACT. Each year we run a joint StormSafe campaign to bring you handy storm and flood damage prevention tips.
The ACTSES has over 200 highly skilled volunteers and is responsible for dealing with storms and floods in the ACT. SES volunteers undertake temporary repairs to affected properties, including placing tarps on damaged roofs, sandbagging and cutting up fallen trees or branches.
Did you know?
- Almost half of ACT households are not prepared for storm season and 70% of residents don’t have a storm kit*
- On average, one in five home claims in the ACT are related to storm damage**
How we're helping
We’re working with the ACTSES to remind you of some easy things you can do to help you prepare your home and property for the storm season:
- Clear your gutters
- Secure loose roof tiles
- Trim overhanging tree branches
- Store unsecured outdoor furniture
- Shelter vehicles under cover or away from trees
- Get your home insurance up to date
