NRMA Insurance settles first batch of claims for bushfire customers
29/12/2001
NRMA Insurance has settled its first batch of bushfire-related claims as its teleclaims and assessing staff continue to work around the clock to provide immediate relief and assistance to its customers.
NRMA Insurance, Australia's largest general insurer, is urging customers whose property has been damaged in the bushfires to, once they have alerted emergency services, call its 131 123 Claims Assistance line to get HELP quickly.
NRMA Insurance assessors are contacting customers in fire affected areas door-to-door if the area is accessible, or by mobile phone, to offer assistance and rapidly assess damage. NRMA Insurance has already organised many repairs and is providing $5,000 immediate assistance for customers who have suffered the total loss of their home.
NRMA Insurance Home and Motor Portfolio Manager, Natalie Atkins, said the latest figures at noon December 28 indicated NRMA Insurance had logged about 670 bushfire-related claims.
Of these claims:
- 288 related to damage to buildings or structures;
- 328 were for home contents; and
- 35 related to damage to motor vehicles.
"It is too early to estimate the extent of overall losses at the moment," Ms Atkins said, "because the fires continue to burn. Our key message to our customers is that if your property has been damaged, call as soon as possible so we can provide immediate assistance. The sooner we can assess the damage, the sooner we can swing into action for our customers.
NRMA Insurance customers who need to lodge a claim or who require urgent assistance should call the NRMA Insurance Claims Assistance line, 131 123.
