Renters beware at Easter
06/04/2004
Australia’s leading general insurer, NRMA Insurance, today released findings that indicate NSW renters may be up to 60 per cent more at risk of a home robbery than owner-occupiers.
“If renters are going away during the Easter holiday period they need to be extra vigilant with their home security. Not only are they at higher risk of home theft, but if they plan to head off for the long weekend, they need to bear in mind that more break and enters happen when no-one is home,” Mr Jackson said.
Additionally, renters’ average home theft claims cost is 15 per cent higher than owner-occupiers.
“Thieves are after portable goods that they can easily grab and on-sell, like TVs, DVDs, mobiles and other gadgets. Inner city renters who are younger and may own newer and more modern belongings need to watch out,” added Mr Jackson.
