330 kilometres north of Adelaide, you’ll find the small town of Quorn. Here, cricket isn’t just a game, it’s part of life. But as temperatures reach extreme levels over summer, matches often have to be called off. So rather than let the season slip by, NRMA Insurance brought floodlights to the local oval, so games can be played in the cooler evening hours. We kicked things off with a week-long festival of cricket under lights, and they’ll be there throughout summer, helping the game we love continue to thrive.
We open on a shot of a teenage boy kneeling down, putting his cricket pads on, with a gentle background music playing.
We then cut to a shot of two young teammates from the Quorn cricket club brushing past each other on the way out to the batting crease.
We then here a female voiceover: “In Quorn the weather’s obviously quite extreme and during cricket season there’s many times that the games are either shortened or cancelled due to the weather.”
This voiceover is accompanied by images of our female on screen (a Mum from the Quorn cricket club) standing in the club room. This is followed by a series of images from the town of Quorn SA, including the main street and close-ups of the dry ground.
We then cut to another member of the Quorn cricket club in the clubroom wearing a blue polo and cap. This time we hear: “We get some days up to about 40-45 degrees.”
From there the screen cuts away to a shot of two Quorn cricket club batsman heading out to the field with helmets and pads on.
A young male voiceover says: “Yeah, it’s not all too fun being out there on a 40 degree day getting belted by the sun.”
The video then cuts to a shot of the Quorn landscape and cricket club with a set of words that appear on screen saying: ‘For the first time in Quorn’s history we helped the cricket club play under lights in the cooler evenings’.
From there the there we see a montage of images as big stadium lights get rolled into the club on trucks.
A woman then says: “Playing under lights is an amazing opportunity that we’ve been given”. As she speaks a shot of the cricket field illuminated by the floodlights appears on screen.
We then cut back to our male club member in the clubhouse: “A set-up like this gives us the chance to play later in the day in the cool of the evening”. As he speaks a montage of shots appear showing the club teams playing under lights at night.
“It has been a once in a lifetime experience for people that have lived here for their whole life” says our club mum, as a further series of cricketing shorts appear on screen.
We then see an older gentleman in a while polo and red cap say: “Ohh I tell you what, I’m gob-smacked mate, gob-smacked”.
Finally, we cut to one more club player, a male in a blue t-shirt and cap. He says “it’s absolutely phenomenal and it’s something we will never forget.”
The NRMA Insurance blue end frame then appears on screen accompanied by the brand sting.

Nathan Lyon shows why cricket can be thirsty work.
Nathan: Drinks breaks are important, but don’t wait until you’re thirsty to have a drink. Staying hydrated is key to performing at your best, to beat your opponents, and the heat.

Meg: A good team knows when to declare their innings. An even greater team knows when to play it safe.

Mitchell Starc explains why cricket is all about keeping your cool.
Mitch: We’ve all got our favourite spots in the field, whether it’s in the slips, or out here in the deep.
If you’re gonna be here for a while, it’s important to take regular breaks throughout the innings, in a shady spot out of the sun.

We open on a local cricket oval as evening settles in. The club house lights cast a faint glow as a team of middle age men make their way onto the field after tea break to continue the community game.
We then cut to a wide shout of a lighthouse at dusk it’s beam slices through the darkening sky. Slowly it begins to turn.
The shot transitions as we return to the community cricket ground, showing a wide image of the oval, a broad pool of light suddenly floods across it, illuminating the pitch.
We then zoom in to an up-close image of our batter taking guard at the wicket as the light washes over him. A flicker of awe and gratitude appears across his face before focus snaps back.
Behind him the wicket keeper and slips settle low, ready…as the bowler chargers in and sends down a quick one.
The batter meets it with a clean crack of the bat.
We then cut back to our lighthouse where we see a lighthouse keeper inside smiling with satisfaction. He then notices something and lifts his binoculars.
A female cricketer sprints along the boundary of a different field, eyes locked on a ball arcing high against the dark sky.
The lighthouse keeper swivels sharply in his chair to steer the beam, and we see the light pan out across the dark landscape.
Back on the field, the powerful beam sweeps across and floods the ground lighting the balls path. Our cricketer dives forward and snares the catch.
Back to the lighthouse. It turns again, sending the beam of light in a new direction.
The big woosh of light rushes across a junior team match. A young bowler, about twelve spins on his heel and lets out a full-throated appeal, arms shooting high.
The beam lands on the umpire, lighting her up for all to see. The finger goes up...and the kids explode into celebration, teammates leap and shout as they swarm the ecstatic bowler, piling onto him in a tangle of cheers and laughter.
Back in the lighthouse the keeper swings around in his chair to operate another part of the machinery. He pulls a pair of levers…and a series of mirrors unfold above him, surrounding the huge lantern.
Cut to a closeup of the keeper as he looks up, excited by his final manoeuvre.
Finally, we cut to an epic wide shot as an array of multiple light beams woosh out in every direction. The music crescendos, and we hear the following voiceover:
“We’ve helped Australians for 100 years. That’s why we’re helping the game we love continue to thrive.”
The voiceover ends and we see the NRMA Insurance coloured end-frame swipe away, leaving space for a blue background with the words appearing on screen:
