Single Item Insurance

Cover for that one thing you care for most, like a new laptop, or jewellery.

What is Single Item Insurance?

Single Item Insurance is a type of home insurance that lets you pick specific items in your home that you want to cover.

Whether it’s a piece of heirloom jewellery, designer furniture, a new TV or sports equipment, you could save money by only insuring what’s most important to you. You can also add optional cover in case your item is stolen anywhere in Australia, not just in your home.

FAQs

Single Item Insurance FAQs

What's the difference between Single Item Insurance and Contents Insurance?

Single Item Insurance allows you to cover individual items you have in your home. You might choose to cover just one thing that matters to you, like a wedding ring, laptop or camera.

You can also add optional theft cover for anywhere in Australia, or optional ‘accidental damage’ cover for anywhere in Australia.

Home Contents Insurance lets you cover the items inside your home including furniture, electronics, clothes, carpets and more without the need to specify these items individually.

You’ll have cover for events such as fire, theft, flood, storm and storm surge3. and have optional benefits to choose from like accidental damage or motor burnout. We’ll also help cover the cost of your temporary accommodation if your home becomes unliveable after an insured event4.

For more information, read the Product Disclosure Statement for Single Item Insurance and for our Home Contents Insurance.

How many items can I cover with Single Item Insurance?

There’s no limit to the number of individual items you can insure.

However, if you want to insure a large number of items, you might want to consider a Home Contents Insurance policy to see if this option better suits your circumstances.

Does Single Item Insurance cover items outside of my home?

If you choose to add optional ‘Theft cover anywhere in Australia’ to your Single Item Insurance policy, the item will be covered for theft anywhere in Australia.

If you choose to add optional ‘Accidental damage’ cover, the item will be protected for accidental damage occurring anywhere in Australia.

If you don’t select either of these optional extras, your item(s) will only be covered while they’re in your home.

Things you should know

  1. Storm means violent wind, cyclone, tornado, thunderstorm, hail, rain, snow or dust – but not persistent rain only. We don’t cover damage from storm surge which is an abnormal increase in sea level caused by a cyclone or severe storm.

  2. Any applicable discounts may be subject to minimum premiums. Discounts only apply until a minimum premium is reached. When we determine your premium on renewal, we may also limit any increases or decreases in your premium by considering factors such as your previous year’s premium amount.

  3. We don’t cover actions of the sea, such as tides and waves. Check the PDS for a full list of exclusions. For insured properties in NSW, ACT or Tasmania, if we give you the option to remove cover for flood, rainwater run-off and storm surge from your Contents Insurance and you choose to do so, you won’t be covered for loss or damage to your contents caused by flood, rainwater run-off or storm surge.

  4. If you’re renting the home, we pay the reasonable extra rent costs for temporary accommodation. If you own and live in your home, we cover the reasonable costs of temporary accommodation. As long as you were living in the damaged home permanently before the incident, we pay for accommodation for up to a year for the Home Contents Standard policy (or up to two years if you have a Home Contents Plus policy), or when your home is repaired or replaced (whichever is first). We pay your extra temporary accommodation costs up to 10% of your sum insured for Home Contents Standard policies, and up to 20% for Home Contents Plus. We need to be satisfied your home is unliveable and we need to agree to the cost before you make arrangements.
