CTP Green Slip Insurance FAQs

CTP (Compulsory Third Party) Green Slip Insurance is mandatory personal injury insurance for all registered motor vehicles in New South Wales.

A Green Slip covers the cost of injuries caused by your vehicle to people you injure in in a road accident, including medical expenses, rehabilitation and lost income.

You need a valid Green Slip before you can register your vehicle in NSW. Without one, you cannot legally drive on NSW roads.

A Green Slip is linked to your vehicle, not to you personally. This means anyone driving your registered vehicle is covered under the same Green Slip policy.

CTP Insurance and a Green Slip are the same thing in New South Wales. These two terms are widely used to describe the same type of insurance.

Other states and territories have their own forms of CTP Insurance, but Green Slip is the name used in specifically in NSW.

A Green Slip is required by law to register and drive a motor vehicle in NSW.

Road accidents can result in serious injuries. A Green Slip ensures that people you hurt (including passengers, pedestrians and other drivers) in a motor vehicle accident have access to financial support for medical treatment, rehabilitation and income replacement.

All motor vehicles that are registered in NSW need a Green Slip. This includes cars, motorcycles, trucks, buses and other motor vehicles.

Certain vehicle types such as trailers and caravans do not require a separate Green Slip as they are covered by the CTP Green Slip Insurance of the towing vehicle.

A Green Slip in NSW covers the cost of injuries caused by your vehicle to people you injure in a road accident.

This includes costs for medical treatment, rehabilitation and lost income. Green Slip cover extends to drivers, passengers, pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists.

A Green Slip protects people and not property. It covers personal injury only and doesn't cover damage to your vehicle, other vehicles, or any property. For property and vehicle damage protection, you can consider policies such as  Comprehensive Car Insurance or Third Party Property Damage Insurance policy.

With our CTP Green Slip Insurance, eligible vehicle types may also get extra at fault Driver Protection Cover. This cover provides defined benefits if you cause an accident and suffer certain serious injuries. Take a look at the Driver Protection Cover Information Sheet for the full list of eligible vehicle types and full benefit details1.

The Fund Levy listed on your Green Slip is a component of your CTP premium required in NSW as part of the CTP Scheme.

This is mandated and administered by SIRA NSW and contributes to lifetime care and support for people who are severely injured in motor vehicle accidents. It also covers ambulance and hospital fees, as well as the costs of running the scheme.
