Please note that we don't accept BPAY for your CTP Green Slip. Why? BPAY doesn't currently give real time payment, which means you can't immediately register your car.
How long will it take for my payment details to be sent to the RMS?
Provided all your information matches with that of the RMS, it can take up to an hour for your payment details to be transferred electronically. This is known as an Electronic Green Slip, or e-Green.
We recommend that you wait an hour before contacting the RMS to complete your registration.
What happens if I'm at the RMS and my payment hasn't transferred successfully?
If your payment details haven't transferred successfully, and you don't have a copy of the CTP Green Slip or a CTP policy receipt, the RMS won't be able to process your registration.
The RMS will ask you to contact us to resend a copy of your Green Slip. Please have your registration papers on hand to confirm your details.
I'm a pensioner, will my registration automatically renew with the RMS?
My renewal isn't due for several weeks, can I pay now?
If you need to pay for your CTP Green Slip renewal more than 42 days before it's due, please call us on 132 132 or visit us at your local branch.
My registration is more than 3 months overdue, what do I have to do?
If you want to renew your vehicle's registration after it's been overdue that long, first you need to buy a CTP Green Slip without the registration number listed. This is known as an 'original registration'.
The RMS will need a paper copy of the original registration, which you can get from your local NRMA branch.
Then, you need to complete a 'vehicle identity and safety check' (also known as a Blue Slip) on your vehicle.

Make changes to your policy
Update or change your details
You'll need to contact the RMS to make changes to your CTP Green Slip, including your address, owner of the vehicle or vehicle details such as your registration number.
The RMS will process these changes and our records will automatically be updated.
Change your period of cover
You can choose a 6 or 12 month Green Slip, however, you're not eligible for a 6 month Green Slip if you require a Vehicle Identity and Safety Check (formerly Blue Slip) or your registration is more than 21 days overdue.
Why does a 6 month premium cost more than half of a 12 month premium?
Six month CTP policies cost more because of an administration fee involved in processing two payments per year rather than one.
Am I eligible for a 3 month policy?
To be eligible for a 3 month policy, your vehicle must be over 2 tonnes tare with existing registration (regardless of class) or being registered for the first time.
I've transferred my ownership, what do I need to do?
After you’ve transferred ownership, you’ll need to complete the required changes with the RMS. The RMS will process the transfer of ownership and the new policyholder will be notified of their CTP Green Slip details.
Can I have a different name on my Green Slip to that on my registration?
The name on your CTP policy should be the same as the person that’s on the car registration.
If more than one name needs to be on the CTP Green Slip, then the registered owner must be listed first.

What does a Green Slip cover?
Compulsory Third Party Insurance (CTP), also known as a Green Slip, is designed to protect you from the financial cost of injuring someone on our roads. This includes loved ones in the car with you, other drivers, their passengers and even pedestrians.
How's my CTP premium calculated?
Your CTP premium is calculated based on a number of factors about you and your vehicle, some of which are set by The NSW State Insurance Regulatory Authority (SIRA) including:
- The type of vehicle you drive
- Where your vehicle is garaged.
We apply additional risk factors, including:
- Age of youngest driver using the vehicle
- Vehicle age
- Vehicle use (private or commercial)
- At-fault motor claim in last 2 years
- Demerit points
- Years of relationship
- Other motor vehicle insurance
- Vehicle safety features e.g. weight, brakes etc.
Am I rewarded for my loyalty?
As an NRMA Insurance customer, we reward you for your entire relationship with us.
CTP Insurance counts towards your Loyalty Discount, but you won’t receive the discount on your CTP Premium. Find out more about our Loyalty Discount.
Do I need to list a learner driver on my policy?
No, however if a learner driver is the registered owner of the vehicle, they must be listed as the insured.
Once a learner driver has their provisional licence, their age must be added to the CTP policy.
How do I get a Primary Producer concession?
For us to apply the Primary Producer concession to your CTP policy, we’ll need to sight one of the following documents:
- A Primary Producer Declaration issued by the RMS - this can be downloaded from their website
- A Primary Producer Declaration certified by a qualified accountant within the last 12 months
- Most recent tax averaging certificate, less than 2 years old
- Most recent tax assessment notice, less than 2 years old
- A letter from the Australian Taxation Office, less than 2 years old
Please have these available and call us on 132 132 or visit us at your local branch.
How do I cancel my policy?
You can cancel your CTP Green Slip if you’ve cancelled the registration of your vehicle. Otherwise when buying or selling a vehicle, the CTP Green Slip is transferred to the new owner until the next renewal.
If you move interstate, you’ll need to cancel the vehicle’s NSW registration and CTP Green Slip in order to re-register in another state.
To cancel your CTP Green Slip, visit a Service NSW Centre to first cancel your registration. Once you’ve received documents from Service NSW, please complete the CTP cancellation and send all relevant documentation to the reply paid address noted on the form, or email the documents to ctpaccountspayable@iag.com.au.
