Car Insurance for young drivers (under 25)

Under 25 and looking for car insurance? Our car insurance options are available for everyone, including young drivers.

Why might young drivers consider car insurance?

As a young driver, there's nothing quite like the feeling of independence and freedom on the road; but it doesn't come without risk.

Car insurance can help offer protection when things go wrong, like if you accidentally hit someone's car in a shopping centre car park, or take a corner a little too fast and hit someone's fence. It all depends on the cover you choose.

Flexible cover options

From basic cover that only covers damage you cause to other people's property, to broader protection that covers your car and others, find the policy that best suits your needs and budget.

While we don’t offer a specific policy exclusively for young drivers under 25, drivers of any age can take up our Comprehensive Car Insurance, Third Party Property Damage and Third Party Fire and Theft policies.

Which level of cover suits you?

Take a look at our car insurance policies

Our entry-level comprehensive policy. Your car will be covered for collision damage, accidental damage to other people’s property, as well as vandalism, theft, fire and severe weather. But with this level of cover, you can’t add any optional benefits.

Comprehensive Car Insurance offers the protection of our Comprehensive Basics cover, plus new vehicle replacement, cover for personal items, and optional benefits like hire vehicle after an incident.

Our highest level of comprehensive cover. It’s got all the basics plus optional benefits like no excess for glass damage and hire vehicle after an incident automatically included. It also offers higher value limits for certain areas of cover, like daily car hire limits and taxi fare limits.

Cover for damage you cause to other people's cars or property in an accident, as well as damage to your car by an uninsured driver. This doesn’t cover fire or theft. Your car will be covered for collision damage, accidental damage to other people’s property, as well as vandalism, theft, fire and severe weather. But with this level of cover, you can’t add any optional benefits.

Cover for your car if it's stolen or catches fire, as well as cover for damage to other people's cars and property if you cause an accident.

FAQs

Car Insurance for drivers under 25 FAQs

Do I need CTP insurance as a young driver?

No matter what age you are or where you’re located in Australia, Compulsory Third Party Insurance (also known as Green Slip Insurance in NSW) is legally required. CTP exists to help protect drivers from the financial impact of a motor vehicle accident that causes injury or death to another person.

What affects the cost of car insurance for drivers under 25?

The price charged for each policy is unique to the individual purchasing the policy and is determined by us through consideration of a range of factors relevant to your personal circumstances.

Can I choose a higher excess to lower my premium?

Increasing your basic car insurance excess can reduce your annual premium, but you may need to pay more upfront if you make a claim. It’s a trade-off between lower regular costs and higher out-of-pocket expenses in the event of an accident.

What should young drivers know about the claims process in the event of an accident?

You can make a claim 24/7 online or over the phone. Our team will help you through the process and arrange towing, repairs, or a hire car depending on your cover.

Make sure to read our policy booklets

Read our policy booklets for a full breakdown of what's included, what’s not included, and much more.

Important note for customers in NSW, QLD, TAS & ACT. If you purchased your policy before 21 April 2024 and you either haven't renewed it yet or you last renewed it before 1 July 2024, your cover will be different to the cover described above. Read the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) relevant to your policy on our policy booklets page, or call us on 132 132 for more information.
