Things to consider before getting Caravan Insurance

How will you be storing your caravan?

Where and how your caravan is stored is important for insurance. Consider whether it’s kept at home, in a storage facility, or parked on the street.

What security do you have for your caravan?

Security measures such as locks, alarms, or tracking devices can help protect your caravan and may reduce the likelihood of theft or damage. They could also be a factor in determining your policy type.

How much mileage do you get out of your caravan?

How often and how far you tow your caravan may influence the type of cover you need, especially if you travel long distances or head off on extended trips.

Do you have any accessories for your caravan?

Add-on items such as awnings, solar panels, or entertainment systems can increase value and convenience, but they may need to be specifically covered in your policy.

How much is your caravan worth?

Knowing an estimated value of your caravan helps you to choose your cover. Consider its current condition, age, and any upgrades.

Want to insure a trailer or motorhome?

We’ve got cover for that, too.

Protect your home on wheels for accidents, theft, fire and more with our Motorhome Insurance.

FAQs

Caravan Insurance FAQs

Are the things inside my caravan covered?

Caravan Insurance covers items that are permanently kept inside your caravan, like furniture, bedding and appliances. To cover items you take outside your caravan (like jewellery, phones and laptops), check out Home Contents Insurance.

What’s lay up cover for touring caravans?

Lay up cover is an optional benefit you can choose to help reduce your premium for a set period of time.

With this cover, you can’t use your caravan for touring during the agreed time, and must keep it at the address shown on our policy and parked undercover.

We also cover your caravan in the lay up period if you're taking your caravan to or from a repairer or mechanic for a scheduled service or to be repaired.

If you want to use your touring caravan during the lay up period, you’ll need to call us to let us know. If we agree, your premium will be adjusted.

If someone else uses my caravan, are they also covered?

Yes, we cover anyone who has your permission to use your caravan6. An age excess will apply to anyone under 25 who drives or tows your caravan.

Things you should know

  1. We may not cover you for some severe weather events during an embargo period (which is usually when we know a severe weather event is about to occur). We'll tell you if there's an embargo when you purchase your policy.

  2. We will replace your caravan with a new caravan of the same make, model and paint type if it is available in Australia. You must have bought your caravan as a new or demonstrator caravan and at the time of the incident it is less than 24 months from if your caravan is registered, the date you purchased it or if your caravan is registered, the date it was first registered.

  3. We cover your legal liability for death or bodily injury to someone else, or loss or damage to someone else's property for an incident we cover.

  4. We can cover motors for up to 15 years after they were made.

  5. Not including policies sold or renewed before 27 August 2023 in NSW, QLD, TAS and the ACT.

  6. Cover is subject to standard underwriting guidelines and policy terms. Additional excesses apply for undisclosed drivers, including for drivers under 25.
