100 years of help

With a century of experience, we know how to protect the things you care about.

Understanding your laptop insurance options

While we don’t have a standalone laptop insurance product, there are options available to help you protect your computer.

Here’s how they work:

Cover at home only

Our Home Contents Insurance and Home Building and Contents Insurance policies help cover the things you keep inside of your home against insured events like theft, fire or storm damage.

With this policy, laptops can be covered for loss or damage that occurs at home.

For full details including limits, conditions and exclusions, read the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS).

Portable Contents cover (optional add on)

If you want your laptop covered while you’re at work, school, or your favourite cafe, you can enhance your home contents policy with cover for your Portable Electronic Devices. With this option, you’ll have protection while you’re out and about.

This option is available for both our Contents Plus and Contents Standard policies. The most we’ll pay for an individual item is $10,000.

Single Item Insurance

Another option available for you is Single Item Insurance. With this policy, you can be covered for an individual item, like your laptop, for the sum insured.

This policy is separate from any home or contents insurance policies you may already have with us, but like those policies, it can offer protection against listed events that occur within your home, including: theft, fire, flood and extreme weather events.

For extra cover outside the home, you can add on protection for theft and accidental damage within Australia.

For all the inclusions and exclusions relating to Single Item Insurance, see the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS).

Why add portable contents insurance for your laptop?

When you add portable contents to your Home Contents Insurance or Home Building and Contents Insurance your laptop could be protected outside the home for:

  • Accidental damage: if your laptop slips from your hands and the screen cracks.
  • Liquid damage: if a bottle leaks inside your bag and causes damage to your laptop.
  • Theft away from home: if someone steals your laptop from you while you’re out.

Home Contents Insurance or Home Building and Contents Insurance  does not cover you for:

Always check the Product Disclosure Statement for the full list of inclusions, limits and conditions.
