I'm placing some contents items in storage, how do I ensure that my items are covered?

General contents held in storage can be covered under your Contents Insurance policy if you inform us before moving your items into storage and if our acceptance criteria are met.

Read the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) on our policy booklets page for information on items not covered while in storage.

Please note that Valuable contents are not covered while in storage.

If you currently insure your home and contents and you're selling to move into a new home, we cover your new home for a certain period of time (from when you enter the contract to buy it) and your current home.

From the time you sign the contract to buy your new permanent home, your interest in that home is covered up to the value of the deposit. You're covered until the contract settlement date, the date the contract's terminated, or for 90 days after you enter into the contract (whichever's first).

If you have Contents Insurance, your contents are covered at both your current and new home for up to 14 days.

We also cover items being moved to your new home if they're damaged by certain events while in transit, up to a total of $10,000.

You'll need to give us the details of your new home within 14 days from when you start moving.

To learn more about what you're covered for, read the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) on our policy booklets page, or call us on 132 132.

Important note for customers in NSW, Queensland, Tasmania and the ACT:

If your policy was

  • First purchased before 21 April 2024 and not yet renewed
  • Last renewed before 1 July 2024

your cover will be different. Call us on 132 132.

This depends on the types of items that you're claiming for.

Contents items such as electrical items generally are referred to a specialist supplier that can assist in the replacement process.

We can also sometimes choose to settle you with a store credit or cash settlement and where possible, repair or restore content items.

We can only provide cover once your home is ready to be moved into.

Up until then your home should be covered under construction insurance.
