Why add cover for motorcycle or moped riding?

Looking for protection in case you have an accident while riding or being a passenger on a motorcycle or moped overseas? Add motorcycle or moped cover to your international NRMA Travel Insurance policy and you can ride confidently.

We cover overseas medical costs and related expenses if you’re injured as the driver or passenger on a motorcycle or moped (subject to policy terms and conditions). Know you’ve got help when you need it with a 24/7 assistance team of nurses, doctors, paramedics, case managers and travel agents ready to help if something goes wrong.

Cover is available when you meet the riding conditions set out in the PDS, like:

  • holding the right licence (if you are riding or the driver does if you are a passenger)
  • wearing a helmet and riding a bike or scooter within the engine capacity limit stated in the PDS (up to 250cc). Larger bikes aren’t covered.

Racing, motocross and riding in professional capacity aren’t covered by the policy. Keep in mind no cover will apply under the personal liability benefit. That means you’re responsible for costs associated with damage to the motorcycle, moped or property, or injury to another person.

For full details, including limits and exclusions, always check the PDS before you buy.

  • During racing, motocross, or professional use.

Options to vary your cover

Choose to add these when you get a quote

  • Reduce or remove your excess when buying your policy.

  • Valuable items cover if you’re taking valuables like a phone, camera, or laptop with you.

  • Annual multi-trip cover if you’ll be travelling more than once a year.

  • Snow sports cover if your holiday also includes skiing or snowboarding.

Annual multi-trip

Take as many trips in a year as you want to your chosen destination or area, all on the one policy. All our annual multi-trip plans are provided under our Comprehensive Travel Insurance plan, giving you our highest-level travel insurance.

You can select cover for up to 30, 45 or 60 days per trip for international policies (15 or 30 for domestic). That way, you can travel as often as you like throughout the year (up to your chosen limit).

To be covered by an annual multi-trip plan, your destination must be over 250km from your home. Or, if your destination is less than 250km from your home, your trip must include at least one night of paid accommodation (like in a hotel or Airbnb).

Choose the cover that’s right for you

Start with the plan that matches your trip – Domestic or International. Then you can choose to add motorcycle and moped riding cover when you get your quote, so it appears on your Certificate of Insurance.

From there, think about if you need to cover any specific items. For example, do you need cover for any valuables like your camera, laptop or jewellery? And are the cover limits on those items appropriate for your needs? Do you plan on travelling again later in the year? If so, consider whether an annual multi-trip coverage may be right for you.

Check the PDS for the full riding conditions related to this cover, and choose the extras that fit the way you travel.
