Why consider additional cover for your valuable items?

If you plan on taking expensive things away with you like a laptop, watch or camera, you can increase the cover available for one or more items by specifying the item your NRMA Travel Insurance policy. An additional premium applies. Increased item limit cover for more valuable items can provide protection for these things if they’re lost, stolen or damaged while you’re travelling.

Be sure to keep your valuables with you, as they’re not covered when checked in with a transport provider, unless security regulations require you to do so. Limits also apply to items in an unattended motor vehicle.

It’s worth making sure you’ve got enough cover for your valuables. While valuable items like mobiles and medical equipment are usually covered by your travel policy, they come with certain limits – usually somewhere between $1,000 and $4,000.

You'll need a receipt or a valuation that's less than two years old for any item you list. If you bought the item more than two years ago, make sure you have a valuation dated within the last two years. If you don't have a recent receipt or valuation, we'll have to deduct depreciation based on the item's age if you make a claim.

Knowing the things you care about are covered when you’re travelling gives you peace of mind for the trip. For full details, including limits and exclusions, always check the PDS before you buy.

  • Add cover for certain activities, like snow sports or motorcycling (conditions apply).

  • Choose annual multi-trip cover if you’re travelling more than once a year.

Annual multi-trip

Take as many trips in a year as you want to your chosen destination or area, all on the one policy. All our annual multi-trip plans are provided under our Comprehensive Travel Insurance plan, giving you our highest-level travel insurance.

You can select cover for up to 30, 45 or 60 days per trip for international policies (15 or 30 for domestic). That way, you can travel as often as you like throughout the year (up to your chosen limit).

To be covered by an annual multi-trip plan, your destination must be over 250km from your home. Or, if your destination is less than 250km from your home, your trip must include at least one night of paid accommodation (like in a hotel or Airbnb).

Choose the cover that’s right for you

Start by selecting the travel insurance plan that suits your trip – Domestic or International. Then think about what you’ll be taking with you.

If you’re travelling with valuables like a phone, laptop, camera, jewellery or a watch, you may add extra coverage for single items when you get a quote. An additional premium applies.

This way, you can choose cover that suits your travel plans, including higher item limit cover for your valuables.

What items can you add extra coverage for?

Mobile phones

Your phone goes everywhere with you. Valuable Items Cover lets you increase the standard policy limit, so the cover suits your needs.

Laptops and tablets

Essential for work, study or staying connected, but costly to replace. Raise their limit to match their true value.

Cameras and lenses

Whether it’s a DSLR or travel zoom, this gear is expensive and fragile. Extra cover helps if it’s lost or damaged.

Jewellery

Small, sentimental and valuable. Listing it for extra cover can make it easier to replace if it’s stolen or misplaced.

Watches

From smartwatches to heirlooms, they’re part of everyday life. Boosting the limit means you’re not left out of pocket if yours is lost.

Drones

Popular for travel footage but pricey to replace. Add cover so you worry less in transit.

Medical and dental dervices

Hearing aids, CPAP machines or dental appliances are vital and expensive. Extra cover helps you keep moving if they’re lost or damaged.

Other valuables

Got something else that would be costly to replace? With receipts or valuations, you may add it for extra protection.
