Tool insurance

Tool insurance, also called Portable Property Insurance, can help protect insured property like tools, equipment and stock you use for work if they’re accidentally lost or damaged while away from your business premises, such as when they’re in transit or at a temporary work location.

What is tool insurance?

If you rely on tools and equipment to get the job done, tool insurance (also known as Portable Property) can help cover the cost of repairing or replacing insured property if they’re accidentally lost or damaged while you're working away from your business premises, whether that’s at a customer site or travelling between jobs.

For instance, if you’re a tradie and someone steals your insured tools from a locked work vehicle while you’re working at a customer’s property, portable property cover can help with a covered claim.2

Things you should know

  1. You can save up to 10% on the ‘base premium’ for the first year when you purchase an eligible new NRMA Business Insurance policy online. The base premium is the premium we have calculated but does not include any government or statutory charges. Any discounts only apply until you reach a minimum premium, so your discount might be limited by the minimum premium (in which case the discount applied may be significantly below the maximum advertised discount). If your base premium is $220 (the minimum base premium for NRMA Business Insurance) you will not receive a discount under this Business Insurance Online Offer. This offer is available on eligible products only, excludes Professional Indemnity Insurance, Information and Communications Technology Liability Insurance. The offer may be withdrawn at any time and is subject to its full terms and conditions. When we calculate your premium on renewal, we may limit any increases or decreases in your renewal premium by considering factors like your previous year’s premium. Cover is subject to standard underwriting and policy terms.

  2. Terms, conditions, limits and exclusions apply. See the relevant Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) for further details.

  3. We don’t cover damage caused by actions of the sea, such as tides and waves, storm surges and high water. You won’t be covered for damage caused by erosion, subsidence, landslide or other earth movements. Check the PDS for a full list of exclusions.
