What's lay up cover for Boat Insurance?

By adding lay up cover you may reduce your premium (and the cover we provide) for an agreed time while you're not using your boat.

We cover your boat in the lay up period you choose. You can't use your boat in that time and you must keep it securely on a trailer or dry stored at the address shown on your policy.

We also cover your boat in the lay up period if you're taking your boat for a scheduled service or to be repaired.

If you want to use your boat during the lay up period, we'll only cover it if:

  • You tell us you're going to use it
  • We agree to cover you for that use, and
  • You pay us any additional premium that applies.

If your contents are lost or damaged as a result of an event we have agreed to cover, you'll be covered up to $1,000.

You can also opt to increase your contents cover. If you choose to increase your contents cover above $1,500, the most we'll pay for a single item is $1,500.

The contents we cover must be used solely in your boat, and includes:

  • Household items and appliances
  • Portable navigation equipment
  • Driving equipment (while not in use)
  • Fishing equipment (while not in use)
  • Waterskiing equipment (while not in use).

Contents we don't cover include:

  • Fuel
  • Food, Drinks, Medicines or Bait
  • Sporting equipment such as sailboards and surfboards
  • Contents solely used on your boat tender.

If your claim is for theft, attempted theft, or vandalism, you won't be covered if your items were not in a lockable cabin or compartment at the time of the incident, or if there was no proof of forced entry into the locked cabin/compartment.
