What's the difference between workers' compensation and Broadform Liability?

Generally, workers' compensation insurance covers employees for wages and medical benefits if they are injured in the course of their employment.

Broadform Liability covers you if you become legally liable to pay compensation (to a person other than an employee) for personal injury or property damage.

Anyone injured in a motor vehicle accident can make a claim, including:

  • The driver and passengers in another vehicle
  • Motorcyclists
  • Cyclists, pedestrians and other road users
  • The driver that caused the accident.

If an NRMA CTP insured vehicle caused the accident, the person injured will need to make a claim themselves. If they need assistance, someone else can help by filling in the appropriate forms to start their claim. When the claim is submitted, we'll need to speak to the injured person directly.

Drivers who caused an accident while driving an NRMA CTP insured vehicle may also be able to claim a lump sum for certain serious injuries.

You cannot make a claim if you:

  • Have been charged with or convicted of a serious driving offence in connection with the accident, or
  • Were the at-fault driver of an uninsured vehicle and you knew the vehicle was uninsured.

For more information, or to start a claim, visit our CTP claims page.

A rental property is any enclosed building at your premises that has walls, a roof and can be locked up.

Your rental property also includes home improvements such as garages, carports, in ground pools, or fixtures that are permanently attached to your home. For example, light fixtures, built in wardrobes and kitchen cupboards.

If your rental property is a flat or unit, it also includes lockable storage that's reserved for you inside the complex.

Run-off liability provides continued cover for claims made against you or your business after your business has closed, been sold, or you’ve retired. It can help cover legal fees or compensation you may need to pay.

Usually, run-off liability is not automatically included in your policy and needs to be requested. If personal injury or property damage occurs after your policy is cancelled, you won’t have cover unless you took up run-off liability.

When we assess your application or claim, we may ask you to get examined by an independent medical specialist or attend rehabilitation.

We'll always try to organise appointments that are close and convenient to your home. If we can't find a suitable provider nearby and you live in a rural or regional area, we'll pay your reasonable medical appointment transport costs.

We'll also organise flights and accommodation for you to attend medical assessments if needed. If there's a medical reason you can't travel alone, we may pay the travel costs for someone to go with you. You'll need to approve this with us first to confirm what expenses we can reimburse you for. We're here to help you find a suitable solution.

To ensure there's disabled access at your medical appointment, please speak to your personal claims manager.
