What does Personal Accident and Illness cover include?

If you experience an accident or illness that prevents you from earning an income, our Personal Accident and Illness cover can provide you with a weekly benefit to offset this loss of income.

We also provide an option for compensation (lump sum benefits) if certain specified permanent injuries occur, for example if you permanently lose your hearing or sight.

Anyone injured in a motor vehicle accident can make a claim, including:

  • The driver and passengers in another vehicle
  • Motorcyclists
  • Cyclists, pedestrians and other road users
  • The driver that caused the accident.

If an NRMA CTP insured vehicle caused the accident, the person injured will need to make a claim themselves. If they need assistance, someone else can help by filling in the appropriate forms to start their claim. When the claim is submitted, we'll need to speak to the injured person directly.

Drivers who caused an accident while driving an NRMA CTP insured vehicle may also be able to claim a lump sum for certain serious injuries.

You cannot make a claim if you:

  • Have been charged with or convicted of a serious driving offence in connection with the accident, or
  • Were the at-fault driver of an uninsured vehicle and you knew the vehicle was uninsured.

For more information, or to start a claim, visit our CTP claims page.

You can claim for:

  • Medical expenses
  • Funeral costs
  • Loss of financial support from the relative who died
  • Loss of services, such as the care of a parent for a child
  • Loss of earnings from your relative, from their injury until their death

You may still be able to claim even if the relative who passed away was partly at fault in the accident.

We understand if this is a difficult time for your family and we're here to help. Please call us on 1800 032 220 and we'll guide you through the process.

If the person is seriously ill and they can’t make a claim themselves, call us on 131 123 to find out how you can make a claim on their behalf (known as Third Party Authority).
