Bushfire

Ensure you have access to water

Help prepare your home for bushfire by setting up a sturdy hose (or multiple hoses) that can reach all areas around your home.

Ensure you have access to a reliable, independent water source. This could assist emergency services responding to a fire.

Safety steps

Here's what you can do

Consider using metal hoses, as they’re more resistant to heat and less likely to melt during a fire.

This could help emergency services if they have to fight a fire on your property. A reliable source of water could include a rainwater tank, swimming pool or farm dam, with a diesel or petrol pump available.

If you have a pool, tank or dam, put a Static Water Supply (SWS) sign on your property entrance, so firefighters know where they can get water.

Also ensure your tank has the correct valve and outlet fittings if you want it to be usable by emergency services.

Contact your local fire authority to confirm requirements and register your water source.

Reach out if you need help

Consider contacting professionals such as licensed plumbers, electricians or irrigation specialists with bushfire-ready expertise if you intend to install water tanks or pumps.
